Nearly 30 new COVID cases reported in Island Health

NANAIMO — A rise in new COVID-19 cases across both the province and Island Health.

The province announced 469 new COVID cases on Wednesday, Feb. 10, coinciding with a rise in new cases reported on Vancouver Island.

Island Health saw 27 new cases with 230 of those considered active, up from 22 new the previous day. There’s currently 157 cases in the central island zone considered active, a drop of five.

There is a data discrepancy between Island Health and the province, based on the timing of COVID-19 results. NanaimoNewsNOW reports local verified data from Island Health.

Province-wide the hospitalization rate fell to 230, while the number of intensive care patients fell slightly to 66.

Six new deaths were revealed in a joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix.

“Currently, 6,820 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and a further 66,167 people who tested positive have recovered,” the statement said.
