Feb 8, 2021 | 7:32 PM

NANAIMO — The number of COVID-19 exposures at Nanaimo District Secondary School has increased.

The Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District confirmed on Monday, Feb. 8 there was an additional COVID-19 exposure from Feb. 1 through to Feb. 4.

Island Health is currently contact tracing.

This is the most recent school exposure event at NDSS, which had previously confirmed COVID-19 exposures from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3.

All of NDSS’s cases were confirmed in the first week of February.

It’s one of six schools currently listed on Island Health’s school exposure page.

Dr. Sandra Allison, interim medical health officer for the central Island region, told NanaimoNewsNOW the current situation within Nanaimo schools is a reflection of what’s occurring in the larger area.

Central Vancouver Island has consistently led the Island in new COVID-19 cases.

As of Monday, Feb. 8 it has roughly two-thirds of the currently active COVID-19 cases within Island Health.
