NANAIMO — Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle involved in a two-car crash in central Nanaimo.

A routine patrol spotted a black Honda Civic travelling at 84 kilometres per hour along Departure Bay Rd. around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said by the time the patrol car turned around to pursue, the Civic was gone.

“[The officer] did some patrols for it and came across a motor vehicle accident involving what he believed to be the suspect vehicle.”

The other vehicle involved, a Lincoln SUV, sustained significant damage and trapped the female driver inside. She was eventually removed and taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

Police said the driver of the Civic did not remain at the scene, prompting an investigation.

“There’s no blood in the vehicle, there’s nothing to indicate who or how many occupants were in there,” O’Brien said.

RCMP determined the vehicle was not stolen and contacted the previously registered owner, who is assisting police with their investigation.
