Tire slashers hit more than ten vehicles in multi-night spree through central Nanaimo

NANAIMO — Police are looking to gain traction in their investigation into several senseless tire slashings.

Vehicle owners along multiple streets in central Nanaimo reported at least one tire being slashed by a sharp object between Jan. 12 and 14. Over ten vehicles were targeted with around two dozen tires damaged.

In all cases, vehicles were parked on the road in front of houses or apartment buildings.

“It happened in the middle of the night, they didn’t make any noise they just punctured the tire and kept on going,” Cst. Gary O’Brien said. “Probably a bicycle was involved, somebody with a car wouldn’t do that because they know the impact it has when your tires are gone.”

The vehicles were parked along Country Club Dr., Ross Rd., Bournemouth Rd., Meredith Rd. and Boxwood Rd.

No witnesses have come forward to date with police unable to name suspects.

“It’s ridiculous. Thousands of dollars in damage these people have caused. Owners woke up to find their tires flat, they couldn’t get to work and the kids needed to get to school.”

If anyone has information on these incidents, contact the Nanaimo RCMP detachment at 250 754 2345.
