By Thursday, Dec. 31, 928 COVID-19 cases were confirmed within the health authority covering all of Vancouver Island, gulf islands and parts of the central coast.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Island Health hit a high of eight new cases announced in one daily reporting period.

A period of calm then followed, with no active cases reported for much of May and June.

This is slightly above the daily average of nine new cases throughout December.

The story will be updated once data about active cases within Island Health is announced.

The 11 were among the 683 new COVID casees found across the province.

There’s currently 7,803 active cases in the province, with 374 people in hospital and 76 receiving intensive care.

An additional eight people lost their lives due to the COVID-19 virus.
