NANAIMO — Mounties are looking for the driver of an unlicensed vehicle who rammed a truck and ran off.

The crash happened on Wednesday, Dec. 2 just before noon on Jordan Ave. at Wellington Rd., near Fountain Tire.

RCMP said the offending motorist traveling up Wellington Rd. in a blue Ford 150 blew the stop sign and hit the passenger side of a white pickup headed west on Jordan Ave.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the suspect, a heavy set white woman wearing a red face mask, then fled the scene.

Numerous officers swarmed the scene. O’Brien said their Police Services Dog found a scent but lost it, indicating the suspect likely got away in another vehicle.

O’Brien said the suspect’s truck didn’t have plates, hadn’t been registered in several months and was started with a screwdriver in the ignition.

It’s unclear if the vehicle was stolen and O’Brien said police are working to track down the last known owner.

“We’re treating this seriously, the driver clearly presents a risk to the public,” O’Brien said.

The driver of the hit truck told NanaimoNewsNOW on scene he was sore and shaken up, but not seriously injured and didn’t require medical attention.
