‘We really need to speak to them:’ RCMP seek sedan driver as key piece to Whiskey Creek crime scene

WHISKEY CREEK — The RCMP are seeking a key piece to their investigation following discovery of multiple bodies and a burned out travel trailer in Whiskey Creek in early November.

Police believe someone in a light coloured sedan picked up two hitchhikers near a gravel pit where three bodies were later found. It’s not known what relationship, if any, there is to the hitchhikers and whether they were involved in the deaths.

“We don’t know what the role of that motorist is, we really need to speak to them to determine what information they have,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet told NanaimoNewsNOW.

“If you were in the area and you’re driving a light coloured sedan and you picked up two hitchhikers, that should flag for you a memory.”

A fourth person was transported from the scene to hospital with gunshot wounds. Their condition is not being made public and police will not say what information they’ve gotten from the person.

Police also said the remains of four dogs were discovered by investigators.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crimes Unit is leading efforts to find out what occurred, in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service and Oceanside RCMP.

A burned travel trailer at the site has provided investigators with a big challenge in discovering what took place.

Fire investigators along with a forensic identification unit are working over evidence collected.

“When we go to a scene we’re relying on the fact that the evidence is where it lay after the incident occurred but when you add the fact there’s a fire here, that destroys much of the evidence,” Shoihet said.
