NANAIMO – Two COVID-19 exposures were confirmed at a Nanaimo school for the first time.

Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public School District announced on Saturday, Nov. 7 the exposures happened at Dover Bay Secondary on Nov. 2 and Nov. 5.

SD68 director of communications Dale Burgos told NanaimoNewsNOW the exposures stemmed from one student who was present at Dover Bay on those two days.

The school district notified parents they’ll be contact by Island Health if they or their child is considered close to the exposure.

The Island Health school exposure page was updated on Saturday several hours after SD68 made their initial post.

This is the first known COVID-19 exposure at a Nanaimo school, roughly two months since in-person schooling resumed.

It’s currently the only school exposure listed on the Island Health website.

Three new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed for Island Health earlier on Saturday in a rare weekend press conference from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
