Nanaimo, Parksville advance voting numbers eclipse 2017 tallies

NANAIMO — Advance voting data indicates Interest in the 2020 BC Election is high regionally.

Over 27,000 people have so far taken advantage of advance voting in three Nanaimo area ridings during the seven day advance voting period which ends at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 21.

Just over 24,000 people advance voted in the 2017 provincial election in the Nanaimo, Nanaimo-North Cowichan and Parksville-Qualicum ridings.

The numbers do not include mail-in ballots which are still being received in record numbers by Elections BC. As of Tuesday, Oct. 20, nearly 350,000 mail in ballots had been received across B.C. with several more outstanding.

Nanaimo has had the highest voter turnout to date with 22.1 per cent of registered voters attending advance voting as of Tuesday night. In Nanaimo-North Cowichan, 19.6 per cent cast their ballot in person while 16.2 per cent of Parksville-Qualicum voters have done the same.

Select advance polling locations in the three mid-Island ridings are open until 8 p.m. on Wednesday night to accept ballots.

  • Parksville Community Centre (Jensen Ave. E)

Across B.C., 16.2 per cent of eligible voters went to advance polls heading into Wednesday’s final day, down from the 19.6 per cent which voted early in 2017.
