NANAIMO — Police are looking for an irate McDonald’s customer who hurled hot coffee at an employee at the fast food’s Terminal Park location.

The incident captured on dash cam video happened mid day on Tuesday, Oct. 13

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Mark Smith said a male employee received burns to an arm that did not require medical attention.

Smith said the incident unfolded after a customer was upset her order was incorrect.

“The employee misheard an order, then he got it right and she demanded an apology,” Smith told NanaimoNewsNOW.

The victim filed a complaint to Nanaimo RCMP.

Smith said police don’t have much of a suspect description beyond the dash cam footage. It is not believed she is connected with the white SUV shown at the window in the dash cam video.

He said the woman would be arrested for assault and charges for Crown Counsel’s consideration were possible.

Smith said similar incidents are not commonplace in Nanaimo.

“Verbal berating seems to be much more common, but to actually take it to this level…it’s over the top.”

He said the dash cam footage is “instrumental to our investigation.”
