NANAIMO — Police are searching for a man and truck believed to be involved in a late-September crash into a power pole.

Nanaimo RCMP believe a truck hit the pole on Saturday, Sept. 12 around 6 a.m. on Victoria Rd. between Needham St. and Rainer St. The incident left the pole and lines dangling across Victoria Rd. and a transformer on the ground.

Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW one witness saw a man that looked out of place after the incident.

“(The witness) saw a very large male with no shirt, wondering through the street but they did not see a vehicle that was possibly involved.”

The incident knocked out power to nearby residents.

Both the man and any vehicle potentially involved in damaging the power pole had left the scene before police arrived.

Further information to police identified the truck believed to be involved as a newer F-150 or Ford Ranger and O’Brien said it would have most likely sustained heavy damage from the incident.

The man police are wanting to speak with is described as at least 6’6″ with dark hair and a deep voice.

“There’s very little information on file, our investigators have tried to develop this and they haven’t gotten very far,” O’Brien said.

Police said the delay in releasing information to the public came from officers working the case in-house and following up on leads generated by their own investigation.

Anyone with information should contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250 754 2345.
