NANAIMO — A prolific offender wanted for alleged criminal activity across Vancouver Island is now in police custody.

The Nanaimo RCMP Street Crimes Unit arrested 24-year-old Austin Carlson-McPherson on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at his Cranberry Ave. home.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said removing Carlson-McPherson from the streets was a significant win for police.

“When the search warrant was carried out a number of items were found, including several stolen shotguns. They were attributed to a break-and-enter in Nanaimo in 2019,” O’Brien said.

“To get those firearms out of the hands of someone known for criminal activity was a big win for our members.”

Carlson-McPherson now faces roughly 20 various charges, including break and enter, possessing stolen property and driving while prohibited.

O’Brien said Carlson-McPherson had stolen mail, personal identifications and passports at the Cranberry Ave. home. It’s believed the personal identification was used to commit frauds across Vancouver Island.

Several people at the Cranberry Ave. home were released without charges.

He remains in custody pending a Friday, Sept. 25 bail hearing.

Carlson-McPherson has numerous property crime and driving convictions across mid and south Vancouver Island, with a criminal record stretching back to 2015.
