NANAIMO — The number of new COVID-19 cases confirmed by the province has dipped from recent alarming highs.

A joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix announced 58 new cases since Monday, including one epi-linked case. This is the second lowest number of new cases in the last two weeks.

There are 925 cases considered active across the province, the highest amount since the pandemic began.

The number of hospitalizations also increased by four, with 22 people in hospital and seven receiving intense care.

Within the Island Health region, two new cases were confirmed.

There are 15 currently active cases of COVID-19 within Island Health.

There’s been 168 confirmed COVID-19 cases within Island Health and five deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

“Our recent daily cases are higher than many of us are comfortable with,” the statement read. “Let’s continue to do our part every moment of every day and keep COVID-19 where it needs to be.”

The statement said there were no new COVID-19 related fatalities but there were two new health-care facility outbreaks in the Fraser Health region.
