NANAIMO — Friday brought an end to the worst week of new COVID-19 cases in B.C.

Ninety new cases were confirmed in a statement from the province on Friday, Aug. 21, building off the 80 announced Thursday and 83 on Tuesday.

The number of active cases across the province rose to 824 after dropping the day before.

Currently nearly 2,600 people are actively being monitored by public health as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Slightly less than 3,900 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Two new people passed away, once again in the Fraser Health region.

Within Island Health, one new case was confirmed on Friday. It brings the total number of cases to 160 since the start of the pandemic.

There are currently nine active COVID-19 cases on Vancouver Island.

“COVID-19 is going to be with us for the foreseeable future. What that means for British Columbians is that we are all learning to live our lives with the virus in our communities,” the statement said.

“Public health teams know what they need to do and so do you. We know that with appropriate protective measures, we can reduce the risk of COVID-19 and live our lives.”
