One new COVID-19 case within Island Health, number of active cases across B.C. dips slightly

NANAIMO — The latest COVID-19 update from the province contained big numbers with a silver lining.

Deputy provincial health officer Dr. Reka Gustafson confirmed 80 new cases across B.C., including one within Island Health to bring the total number of cases regionally to 159 since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are currently nine active COVID-19 cases within Island Health.

The 80 new cases confirmed is on par with higher daily increases seen in the last week.

The number of active cases has dropped slightly, down to 780 from 798. A total of 3,845 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the province.

Dr. Gustafson also announced there are no more active COVID-19 cases on Haida Gwaii after a high-profile outbreak in the remote chain of islands on the central coast.

Two new COVID-19 related fatalities within the Fraser Health Authority, for a provincial total of 200 deaths.
