PARKSVILLE — Tourists enjoying a relaxing stay at a Parksville resort had to suddenly shift gears when a pair of expensive bikes were stolen from a popular local resort.

Oceanside RCMP said in a release two bikes, valued at approximately $3,000 each, were stolen from the Kelowna family on Monday, Aug. 17 around 10 p.m.

Surveillance footage from the resort showed two men entering the property’s underground parking garage. They cut the locks holding the two bikes in place and removed them from the car rack.

The two men used the stolen bikes to peddle from the scene.

The next day Oceanside RCMP were called to Bowser to find one of the men allegedly seen in the surveillance video acting “irrationally” and “extremely high on drugs” in a car.

Officers found one of the stolen bikes in the back seat of the car.

“The male was arrested and the bike was returned to the very grateful family,” the report said. The suspect was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 6.

The other valuable bike, a ladies black Norco Fluid mountain bike, is still missing.

Anyone with information is urged to call Oceanside RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
