NANAIMO — The COVID-19 curve in British Columbia continues to trend skyward.

A total of 83 new cases were announced Tuesday, Aug. 18 in a statement from the province, including two in the Island Health region.

It brings the number of active cases on the Island to seven and the total number of cases on Vancouver Island to 156 since March.

Across B.C., six people are in hospital with three in the ICU.

This marks another day of high numbers, building on the 236 confirmed since Friday, Aug. 14.

There are 775 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

The number of active cases has spiked by more than 500 since the end of July.

“Hundreds of people are now self-isolating and under care and we can support them to do that well,” the statement read. “Because the virus can spread with very mild symptoms, it is essential anyone advised to self-isolate stays home and stays away from others for the full 14-day period.”

No new community outbreaks were announced on Tuesday.
