Environment Canada expects heat to return after volatile July

Aug 10, 2020 | 5:29 AM

NANAIMO — Summer-like weather finally arrived in the back half of July, while a meteorologist expects hotter temperatures will return later this month.

Environment Canada’s Bobby Sekhon said July was a tale of two months in the Nanaimo area.

“We started off cool, cloudy and showery,” Sekhon said. “However the second half of the month is when we built that nice ridge of high pressure that brought sunny skies and hot weather.”

Sekhon said it was drier than normal last month, with 15.7 millimeters of rain falling at Nanaimo Airport, accounting for 62 per cent of July’s average amount of precipitation.
