NANAIMO — A BC Cannabis Store has arrived in Nanaimo, representing the 20th government-run operation to welcome customers across the province.

A tour of the Mary Ellen Dr. store at the Woodgrove Crossing shopping complex was held Tuesday, July 28, one day ahead of the first day in business.

Tyson Muzzillo regional manager with BC Cannabis Stores said everything from dried marijuana, pre-rolls, oils, accessories and extracts are available.

“Between our edibles, beverages and different things I’d say we have a product range of about 150 to 200,” Muzzillo said among several tablet screens and information boards.

Muzzillo said people unfamiliar with their wide array of products have leaned on their staff elsewhere across the province.

“They’ll really work with them to find an experience and a product that fits what they’re looking for.”

He said a two-ID check for people who appear under 30 will be be strictly enforced.

The new BC Cannabis Store outfitted with physical distancing markers and plexi-glass has a 10 person in-store limit due to COVID-19.

Other BC Cannabis Stores on Vancouver Island are located in Parksville, Campbell River and Port Alberni.

A BC Cannabis Store entering the Nanaimo market follows several private licensed pot shops opening over the past several months.

Recreational marijuana products sold by licensed producers must adhere to rigorous Health Canada testing.
