Woodgrove Centre parent company backtracks on COVID-19 case claim

NANAIMO — There wasn’t a COVID-19 case at Woodgrove Centre after all, one day after the mall’s parent company issued a statement claiming there had been.

A brief statement from Ivanhoe Cambridge B.C. regional manager Charles Fleck on Wednesday, July 1 said “we have been informed that the person who tested positive for COVID-19 was not working at Woodgrove Centre.”

No information about how the mistake was made, or where the apparent COVID-19 positive case originated from was revealed in the memo.

Just 24 hours earlier a Tuesday, June 30 memo said a person working at Woodgrove Centre tested positive for COVID-19 and “this person was no longer in the shopping centre.”

The incorrect internal staff memo left many unanswered questions, including when the positive test was known.

Woodgrove Centre’s administration centre was closed when visited by NanaimoNewsNOW on Wednesday, July 1.
