NANAIMO — RCMP officers had an audience when searching a drug house.

The Nanaimo RCMP Street Crimes Unit moved in and searched a notorious house in the 500 block of Milton St. around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said officers were inspired by neighbours cheering and clapping as police entered the drug house.

He said numerous complaints were made against those on the property, including drug deals and daily disturbances.

Of the seven people found inside, one 58-year-old woman was taken into police custody. A second man of similar age was arrested away from the home. Charges are pending.

O’Brien said a small amount of suspected fentanyl and approximately one ounce of crystal meth was found inside the home along with cash and paraphernalia.

“The neighbours were upset and instead of taking out their frustration via social media, they asked for help,” O’Brien said.

There are currently warrants on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking against the two people arrested.
