NANAIMO — Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced no new cases of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island during her weekend update on the pandemic from Victoria.

The number of active or resolved cases remains at 125 across the Island Health region.

There are now 2,330 total cases of the virus in B.C. with 1,659 people considered fully recovered.

The province also reported two more deaths, bringing the total to 129 people who have lost their lives due to the coronavirus.

Dr. Henry took time to talk about Sunday’s special day.

“Honour our mothers by keeping them safe. If your mother is not part of your household, then this is a great weekend to spend time with her outdoors while keeping a safe physical distance,” Henry said.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said about eight-million of the 11-million N-95 respirators China shipped to Canada don’t meet Canadian standards.

At his daily briefing from Ottawa, Trudeau said some of the masks may be distributed for non-medical use.
