City of Nanaimo shuts down sports courts, other outdoor rec amenities

NANAIMO — Further closures from the City of Nanaimo have been announced in efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

All of the City’s outdoor sports courts, skateboard parks, bike parks and gated dog parks are closed indefinitely

Parks and open trails remain open in Nanaimo.

Recent pictures on social media of a basketball game at the Maffeo Sutton Park court with several players drew considerable criticism.

The move follows prior decisions to shut down all playgrounds and the City’s indoor recreation facilities.

The City of Parksville announced Monday afternoon the closure of its outdoor sports courts and Springwood off-leash dog park until further notice.

The Regional District of Nanaimo outdoor sports courts are also closed, while the RDN’s regional and community parks and trails remain open.
