Nanaimo to Toronto direct flights expanding for third year

NANAIMO — More planes will take to the skies when direct flights from Nanaimo to Toronto return.

The seasonal service is set to resume on June 26 and run through to Sept. 7.

Instead of winding down, service will continue four times a week from Sept. 8 to Oct. 12, making 2020 the longest season for direct Air Canada flights in Nanaimo.

In 2019 flights ended in September and even earlier in 2018 when late season flights were cancelled due to lack of passengers.

Since its introduction in 2018, the seasonal service has expanded every year its returned to the Nanaimo airport.

The Nanaimo Airport also continues to expand. Construction is still underway on a new boarding lounge which is expected to open this year.

It’s the second busiest airport on Vancouver Island, behind Victoria.
