NANAIMO — Being able to catch a ride in something other than a taxi in Nanaimo is closer to being a reality.

The Passenger Transportation Board announced on Friday, Feb. 7 it approved the company Kabu Ride Inc. to operate a ride-hailing service on Vancouver Island.

However, Kabu communications director Martin van den Hemel couldn’t say when the service will arrive in the mid-island.

“We have to spend a little more time studying the Nanaimo area,” he told NanaimoNewsNOW. “Off the top of my head I imagine we’d probably need a fleet of 25-50 drivers operating throughout the course of the day.”
