Stolen vehicle hits police cruiser in south Nanaimo, 3 suspects arrested

NANAIMO — Three men were arrested after their allegedly stolen car ended up in a south Nanaimo ditch while being tracked by police.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the suspect vehicle hit a police cruiser prior to losing control on Park Ave. near Alpen Way on Wednesday afternoon.

O’Brien said there were no injuries. He said police followed the vehicle and that it was not a high speed pursuit.

Shauna McAllister lives on nearby Cambie Rd. and saw the aftermath of the incident.

She said neighbours witnessed the suspect vehicle careening around corners and damaging planters on people’s property.

Mcallister said the car was badly damaged.

“It looks like a flattened roof, most of the windows are broken and all of the tires are sideways. It’s a very damaged vehicle.”

The incident took place about a half-hour prior to the final bell at Park Avenue Elementary School.
