NANAIMO — RCMP are trying to help solve a significant case of fraud at Nanaimo bank, while Bank of Montreal refuses to shed light on the situation.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said a man illegally acquired a pair of bank and credit cards in the name of someone else on Sept. 19, 2019 at a Bank of Montreal branch in Nanaimo. The suspect then racked up $25,000 on the accounts.

Surveillance video was recently obtained by police showing the suspect completing application paperwork at the bank last September.

O’Brien said the victim was unaware he was defrauded until after BMO contacted him.
