Criminal doesn’t get far after stealing truck from south Nanaimo Kal-Tire

NANAIMO — A man breaking into a south Nanaimo Kal-Tire had a 50/50 chance of stealing a car which actually worked. He chose wrong.

Staff at the Kal-Tire on Old Victoria Rd. told NanaimoNewsNOW their security footage captured video of a man throwing a rock through a store window around 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. The man went straight to where keys are kept and made off with a truck which was brought in for repairs.

Unfortunately, the truck broke down only a little ways away since it needed a new alternator, which charges the battery and powers the engine.

Staff said several of the cars in the shop at the time would have run and it’s their good fortune the man drove away with one in need of significant repairs.
