POWELL RIVER – For more than 55 minutes nobody scored.

But a late power play rebound goal by Ethan Schmunk broke a scoreless deadlock and gave the Kings a 1-0 victory over the Clippers.

A power play disparity of seven to three in favour of Powell River continued a season long trend that sees Nanaimo with a league low 130 man advantages and a league worst -41 power play differential.

The Clippers were outshot 37-35 with third star Jordan Naylor making four to five highlight reel stops.

Kings netminder Derek Krall earned the shutout, his second of the season.

Nanaimo and Powell River have now faced each other four times with the home team recording a shutout in every matchup.

The Clippers hold a 3-1 lead in the season series with a chance to become the first road team to record a victory Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. at the Hap Parker Arena.

Nanaimo will start 2020 with at least a share of first place in the Island Division, but can take sole possession with a win or overtime point.
