COLWOOD – The Clippers came back to tie their game with the Grizzlies late in the third period, but ultimately lost 5-4 in overtime in the final game before Christmas.

The offense started on a long Clipper power play in the first period.

With Isack Bandu given seven minutes in penalties, Steven Agriogianis scored on the man advantage to give Nanaimo a 1-0 lead.

But a shorthanded goal by Jake Veilleux evened the game just over a minute later.

Agriogianis scored again late in the that power play and the Clippers took a 2-0 to the dressing room after one.

Quick goals by Alex DiPaolo and Marty Westhaver put the Grizzlies up 3-2 early in the second frame, but Nanaimo settled down after switching goalies.

Jordan Naylor replaced Zach Bennett and not long after Travis Walton knotted the game at 3-3.

The teams swapped goals in the third period.

James Davenport vaulted the Grizzlies back into the lead before Kyler Kovich leveled the game with just over three minutes left.

Late in three on three overtime Cody Monds walked in and put a shot behind Naylor to give the Victoria the 5-4 win.

Nanaimo finished the season series with a 5-2-2 record against their South Island rivals and move on to Powell River for games right after Christmas on Dec. 30 and 31.
