DUNCAN – The Clippers eight game winning streak came to an end with a 5-1 loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Robby Drazner had the only goal for Nanaimo on a first period power play.

But by the time Drazner had scored the Capitals already had a 2-0 lead on goals by Primo Self and Matthew Crasa.

In the final 40 minutes Cowichan added power play goals from Luc Wilson and Crasa, and a penalty shot tally by Olivier Gauthier.

There were 16 seperate penalty calls in the third period alone, including a five minute major for a check from and game misconduct assessed to Nanaimo’s Travis Walton.

The 5-1 loss was the largest margin of victory against the Clippers so far this season and their record falls to 0-2 versus the Capitals this season.

Nanaimo will have to wait until Jan. 3 and 4 to face the Capitals again as the two clubs will open 2020 with a home and home series.

Six of the final 18 games of the regular season will be against each other, which will quite likely decide who finishes atop the Island Division.
