NANAIMO — Someone in Nanaimo has a sweet tooth for good deeds.

An anonymous donor bought $1,200 worth of Girl Guide cookies and asked the treats be donated to charity.

Girl Guides leader Sarah Pachkowksy, who the 240 boxes of mint cookies were bought from, said the donor wanted the girls to learn about charity and the joy of giving.

The boxes of cookies were given to the Nanaimo Loaves and Fishes food bank.

“Being able to share this story is a great way to help people remember that there’s a lot of good things that happen day-to-day in our community,” Pachkowsky said.

The youngest Girl Guides, known as the Cedar Sparks, toured the Loaves and Fishes food bank and saw how an organization helps feed thousands every year.

Pachkowsky said she was curious to see if the learning lesson of the donation would sink in for the young Cedar Sparks.

“Seeing them be so inspired and so empowered was a gift in it’s own, let alone all the other pieces that have come together for this donation.”

Pachkowsky said she hopes people are inspired by the random act of giving and in turn do something good for the community.
