Why do it?

I don’t know what you do for a living, sometimes I don’t even know what I do! 😉

Most people would understand if I said I was a ‘motivational speaker’ but that comes with all sorts of connotations. Still, I use the title anyway even though my association assure me that we are ‘experts who speak’.

I have had a number of jobs in my life from waitress to store clerk to mascot to nurse and when I think about a job that scares the begeebees out of me, I think teacher. I did one talk for high school kids and I just about peed my pants, I was so petrified! The fact that one human can impact and influence dozens of kids, day after day blows my mind. Thank you teachers!!

This time of year**seemed appropriate to listen to this 3-minute clip from a teacher who had such pride for his profession, it was palpable. Watch, share and thank a teacher today!

And… think about your job, profession, calling, vocation. Whatever you are doing (paid or unpaid):

  • Are you doing it with pride, with love, with your whole heart?
  • Are you proud of what you do, do you brag about and educate about your profession?
  • Do you encourage/praise/acknowledge your colleagues, do you share success stories?
  • Do you talk about why you do what you do, what made you choose this profession, what the rewards are and how far you’ve come since you started?

Please consider answering one or more of these things this week.

It’s a good thing we all have different talents and skills but if we don’t appreciate, acknowledge and champion what we do, how can we expect others to?

It doesn’t matter what you do, but it does matter that you love (most of) what you do. Most of the time, anyway!

They may call me a ‘motivational speaker’ and that’s just fine, but what I aspire to do is to help people be (even) better, stronger and happier. Like happy, happy!

I don’t want anyone to feel like they are stuck, trapped or blocked. There was a time when I felt that way, I needed help but I didn’t ask and no one offered. It sucked and that’s why I do what I do, so people don’t have to feel like I did.

That reason keeps me going on the days I feel lazy, tired, uninspired, cranky, negative blah blah blah. Even a ‘motivational speaker’ needs a little motivation sometimes, you know!

I don’t know what you do for a living, but I thank you, because the world needs us all doing our best.

Remembering why you do what you do, it’s just one more way to live, Your Life,  Unlimited!  Best, Steph 🙂

**’this time of year’ was supposed to be last month, but I was frozen without an assistant, so you are getting this message now!

On another note…
I see a steep discount in your future!
On the road again – I’m heading to Alabama, Chicago, New York, Seattle, North Dakota, New Mexico, Colorado, Alberta (this one is a public event – COME!!), Manitoba, Vancouver, London(Ontario) – possibly more but that’s all I can remember right now! Happy to talk with you about speaking with your group with I am in and around (or flying over) your area!
And/or…if the year isn’t finishing off the way you had hoped, consider personal (executive) coaching as a gift to yourself. It’s all done on the phone, so it doesn’t matter who is in what time zone!
