Clippers fall short in back and forth battle with Vees

NANAIMO – The Clippers and Vees both came to Frank Crane Arena ready for a battle on Sunday afternoon.

The Vees scored in the first minute with a goal by Tristan Amonte, before the Clippers Robby Drazner tied the game mid way through the opening 20 minutes.

A wonderful individual effort by Travis Walton led to a short handed breakaway early in the second and gave Nanaimo the lead.

It was Walton’s team leading fourth goal of the season, and he has built up a four game point streak.

Danny Weight tied the game on a close in shot before Sean Donaldson’s first goal as a Clipper game the home team a 3-2 lead heading to the intermission break.

Penticton put on a strong press in the third period and got late goals from Carson Kosobud and Danny Weight to win the game 4-3.

Weight’s game winner was a spectacular end to end marker with three minutes left.

Penticton outshot Nanaimo 39-18 but once again the Clippers got rock solid goaltending from Zach Bennett.

The next game for Nanaimo isn’t until Sunday Sept. 29 when they host the Powell River Kings.

The Kings are the team that knocked the Clippers out of the 2019 playoffs with a five game series win in the opening round.
