BOWSER — A man well-known to Oceanside RCMP is once again in police custody after allegedly fleeing and getting stuck in a creek bed.

Cpl. Jesse Foreman said Justin Joseph Kloss, 26, was spotted by an off-duty officer on Saturday, July 20 driving a stolen car.

On-duty officers were notified and a roadblock was set up on Hwy. 19A near Cook Creek to await the 2017 Subaru Forrester reported stolen in Nanaimo on June 26.

Foreman said Kloss saw the roadblock and quickly fled in the other direction.

Kloss allegedly got stuck on a forest service road and abandoned the car.

He was tracked by the K9 unit and arrested without incident two kilometres away from the Cook Creek intersection.

Kloss is now charged with possession of stolen property and numerous other charges for prior property related offences, including possession of stolen property and break and enter.

He was on probation for a previous December 2018 offence.

This is the second time an escape attempt from police officers went sideways for Kloss.

On April 23, Cpl. Foreman said Kloss was found stuck in a stolen truck trying to steal batteries from logging equipment in the Errington area.

He has a lengthy criminal record stretching back to 2013, primarily for possession of stolen property, property crimes and driving while prohibited.

Kloss remains in custody.
