Garage door openers should be treated as another key to your home. Gary O’Brien

A significant amount of electronic equipment like a drum machine and gear was stolen from a Tweedsmuir Cres. garage. The garage opener was found on a neighbourhing lawn later that day, having served its purpose.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said it was interesting the dog, which was in the garage around the time of the theft, didn’t bark at whoever had come in to steal the musical equipment.

A day later, thieves enter an Ocean Walk Dr. house using a garage door opener and rummaged through the second car parked inside.

Two backpacks filled with emergency gear and a GPS were stolen and later found strewn over a nearby lawn.

Both garage door openers were taken from vehicles left unlocked.

Nanaimo RCMP have consistently messaged in recent years how the number of thefts from cars is increasing at a rapid rate.
