Campfire ban delayed until after Canada Day long weekend

NANAIMO — Wet weather means another long weekend will pass without a campfire ban.

The Coastal Fire Centre confirmed a campfire ban won’t be in place due to damp, wet weather in coming days.

“As long as you keep your campfire small, monitored at all times and don’t leave it at anytime, there won’t be a campfire prohibition this weekend.” Marg Drysdale

Despite the rain anticipated for the end of the week, June this year has been one of the driest on record. It follows a bone dry May where only 17 millimetres of rain fell, roughly one-third of normal precipitation.
