NANAIMO — An international effort to save the oceans led to our spot of the coast looking better than ever.

Volunteers hit the shores along Maffeo Sutton Park and the seawall on Saturday, June 8 to commemorate World Oceans Day.

The day started with a cleanup along the shores near the Nanaimo Yacht Club and moved it’s way back towards Maffeo Sutton Park.

Divers with the Nanaimo Port Authority also cleaned up deeper waters off the Nanaimo coast and Snuneymuxw First Nation held events on Newcastle Island.

Organizers say it was exciting to have a large turn out for the day-long event and they hope people start treating every day like it’s World Oceans Day.
