NANAIMO — The Chicago Cubs drafted a pitcher from the harbour city in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft.

Right-hander Josh Burgmann, 21, of the Washington State Huskies was picked 162^nd overall on Tuesday.

Burgmann finished the 2019 regular season tied for second in the Pac-12 with 101 strikeouts.

He compiled a 4-6 record and a 3.99 ERA in 14 starts, following a pair of injury-riddled seasons at Washington State.

The 6,0”, 205 lbs. Burgmann was previously drafted in the 30^th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016.

Burgmann played for the Nanaimo Pirates and was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team.
