Trees vandalized and destroyed in developing Parksville suburb

PARKSVILLE — Important landscaping in an under-development Parksville subdivision is no more after a destructive case of vandalism.

The City of Parksville, along with Oceanside RCMP, said 30 trees planted in the first phase of developing Cedar Ridge Estates were significantly harmed over the Victoria Day Long weekend.

“The vandalism was intended to permanently destroy the trees and would have taken considerable sustained effort by individuals to inflict this amount of damage” _{City of Parksville}

Ten healthy fir and pines trees were destroyed at the base and another 20 suffered severe damage at their tops. All 30 will now be removed and the street will be left bare.

Replacing the trees is expected to cost upwards of $30,000.
