NANAIMO — People in the Hammond Bay area are being told a potentially strong odour from the Pollution Control Centre is only temporary.

The Regional District of Nanaimo said an equipment upgrade could lead to strong odours in the area of the under-construction facility on Hammond Bay at McGuffie Rd. through May 29.

The wasterwater treatment facility is undergoing a significant upgrade estimated to cost $80 million to provide better treated water to the nearly 100,000 people living in the Nanaimo area.
