Alleged string of break-ins keeps Nanaimo man in custody

NANAIMO — Charges were laid this week against a Nanaimo man accused of breaking into dozens of mid-island businesses.

The break and enter charges against Ian Archibald Mactavish, 53,involve six incidents each in Nanaimo and Qualicum Beach.

Crown prosecutor Brett Webber said all of the alleged break-ins involve commercial businesses.

Most of the charges relate to incidents from this year, while two alleged offences date as far back as April of last year in Qualicum Beach.

Mactavish remains in custody.

He has a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 in provincial court in Nanaimo.
