NANAIMO — A man with a violent past wanted for several crimes was arrested by Oceanside RCMP.

Sgt. Stephen Rose said Hudson David Klassen, 26, was arrested in Parksville Wednesday for numerous outstanding warrants, including for an alleged assault in Errington in September.

Rose said Klassen is accused of punching a man in the face and breaking his nose, which is partly why his case was considered a priority file.

“They pose a risk to the public at large, those individuals get prioritized by our officers,” Rose told NanaimoNewsNOW.

In addition to the assault, Klassen is charged with resisting arrest and breaching his court-ordered conditions.

A warrant for Klassen’s arrest was issued after he failed to show up for a Jan. 8 court appearance in Nanaimo for driving infractions.

Klassen will remain in custody pending a March 19 bail hearing.

Klassen’s lengthy criminal record dates back to 2012 when he was convicted of a violent home invasion in Nanaimo. Klassen, who was 20-years-old at the time, assaulted a woman at her Uplands Dr. apartment.

Nanaimo Mounties said the wrong unit was targeted and a woman was punched in the face.

Klassen was sentenced to nearly two years in jail for the disturbing assault.

He has several convictions, including for assaults, drug possession and stolen property for offences in Parksville, Errington and Nanaimo.
