The Neighbourhood Small Grants program has been launched, which will see grants between $50 and $500 given to individuals following an online application process, according to executive director Laurie Bienert.

“To deliver projects within our neighbourhood that build community spirit, bring people together and promote creative ideas within the neighbourhood.”

A total of $4,000 is up for grabs and people are invited to file their nominations thorugh Feb. 28.

Bienert said the foundation intends to have other parts of Nanaimo in addition to Harewood benefitting from the program in the future.

“It’s really the heart of Nanaimo,” Bienert said of debuting the program in Harewood. “It’s one of Nanaimo’s oldest communities and there’s a lot of spirit there…it has a lot of enthusiastic individuals.”
