NANAIMO — In the Clippers fourth exhibition game they lost out 6-4 to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

It was a tight first period with Josh Bourne opening the scoring with a goal in his third straight preseason contest.

Marcus Walter and Michael Sacco replied to give the visitors the lead after the opening 20 minutes.

Nanaimo opened up a lead in the second period thanks goals by Jonathan Stein and Marcus Mitchell.

Like Bourne, Mitchell has also scored in every preseason game he’s played.

Veteran Brady Lynn added another late in the second to give the Clippers a 4-2 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs had a strong push in the third period with goals from Evan Googins, Tyler Vanuden, Dawson Tritt, and Jackson Doucet.

Alberni Valley took the opener of this weekend series and the two clubs will meet again Saturday in Parksville for a neutral site game at 7 p.m.

The Clippers also play Sunday in Comox against the Powell River Kings before they open their season at home September 8 versus the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
