NANAIMO — The Clippers lost their first of six exhibition games 3-2 in a shootout to Victoria at the Nanaimo Ice Centre on Friday.

Brandon Buhr and Josh Bourne scored for Nanaimo in a game that showed fans the new BCHL overtime and shootout format.

This season tied BCHL games will go straight to three on three overtime and then a best of three shootout, mimicking the NHL.

Previously games would go to four on four and then three on three with no shootout.

Period scores were 1-1 after the first and 2-1 Clippers after 40 minutes.

With the Clippers carrying more than 40 players many regulars were in the stands at a nearly full NIC on Friday night.

Nanaimo’s line up will look quite a bit different on Saturday when they face the Grizzlies again at 5 p.m. at the Juan De Fuca Arena.

The Clippers will be back at the Nanaimo Ice Centre Sunday at 1 p.m. to host the Powell River Kings.
