Canadian women claim four medals at rowing World Cup
LUCERN, Switzerland — Canadian women came away with four medals on the final day of competition at the rowing World Cup on Sunday while a Canadian men’s duo finished just off the podium.
Victoria’s Caileigh Filmer and Hillary Janssens of Cloverdale, B.C., started the women’s success with a silver in the pair final.
The Canadians completed the 2,000-metre race in seven minutes 7.630 seconds. New Zealand’s Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler won in 7:07.200 and the Kristine O’Brien and Felice Mueller of the United States finished third in 7:17.790.
“It just felt really close the whole way with the New Zealand boat,” said Janssens. “It was great to race them and we can see why they’re the world best time holders and reigning world champions. It’ll be fun to continue racing them and see where the season takes us.”
