Construction of desperately needed seniors rental housing starts this summer
NANAIMO — Struggling seniors will soon have a roof over their heads without the constant stress of worrying how to pay for it.
The province and the Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society formally announced their $16.6-million, 159 unit development at 10 Buttertubs Dr. will be built in late summer of 2018.
Units are priced between $700 and $1,200, either one or two bedrooms with a variety of different layouts designed to be accessible for seniors.
Jim Spinelli, executive director of the Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society, said such a substantial housing development is sorely needed in the city.
