NANAIMO — The Clippers rebounded in a big way from a 9-1 loss on Friday by beating the Victoria Grizzlies 5-2.

Saturday’s victory was the first time Nanaimo has scored first this year as the team built up a 2-0 lead in the first period.

A determined Lucas Vanroboys opened the scoring with his line buzzing the Grizzlies net.

Parker Colley later scored his second goal of the season when he stole the puck and cut in off the right wing to beat goalie Shawn Parkinson.

In the second period the teams traded goals within eight seconds.

First Jake Harris deflected in the 3-0 goal on a Nanaimo power play, but immediately after Ethan Nother broke down the left side and fooled Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe with a quick shot.

The Clippers would add two more goals in the second period with Jamie Collins getting his team leading third goal on a wraparound and Vincent Millette scoring on a tip in.

Lucas Clark scored on a man advantage in the third period but the Clippers skated away with the first win in the eight game season series.

Last season Nanaimo was 1-6-0-1 against Victoria, and that win didn’t come until the final day of the regular season.

The Clippers outshot the Grizzlies 34-21 in their best defensive effort of the season.

Saturday’s Three Stars
