Hands-on learning event to unlock the scientist inside

Feb 16, 2018 | 4:40 PM

NANAIMO — There’s a scientist inside everyone and a learning event wants to help everyone unlock their curiosity and sense of adventure.

Science Saturday, at the Island ConnectED school from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, has roughly 10 community groups, such as Maker Space and the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, presenting their hands-on exhibits.

Co-organizer and science outreach educator Stephanie Maasik told NanaimoNewsNOW the hands-on aspect of the event is designed to inspire everyone.

“Some people can get intimidated by science, especially when they become a bit older. They think ‘Science is something I learned in high school and I’m not a scientist.’ But really, everyone can be a scientist no matter if you’re two-years-old or 92-years-old.”
